He was copying a song by Vince Vance and the Valiants where they took "Barbara Ann" and changed it to "Bomb Bomb Bomb,

In response, McCain said, "That old, eh, that old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran" which elicited laughter from the crowd. McCain then chuckled before briefly singing to the tune of the chorus of the Beach Boys' classic "Barbara Ann" "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, anyway, ah ...."

Bomb Bomb Iran." They then sang the rest of their song with clever word-play copying the rest of "Barbara Ann." It was in response to the Iran hostage crisis. I despised the song at the time; I won't search it out and post it here.

And I paid attention to what going on since a graduate of my school was one of the hostages and we got updates from the school. He was the hostage who was released early for serious health reasons.
