First, as far as I’m concerned, gay is absolutely NOT an insult. My insult is directed at his hypocrisy - not his sexuality. He is among the conservative gang that disparages gay people and supports legislation/court rulings that take away LGBT rights.

Oftentimes (not always, I know) those are the people likely to be closeted with double lives. Again: the sexuality is not the issue. The hypocrisy is.

We obviously can’t know what his actual status is, but his behavior suggests the possibility.

Only he would be insulted by the insinuation, which is pretty much the point.
