I know a lot of New Yorkers think NYC is the center of the universe, but there are a lot of people out in the hinterlands who don't really spend a lot of. time thinking about the inner workings of NYC government. I'd also say that being governor of a large blue state is a bigger deal than being mayor of NYC or any other city. Finally, and this is a big one, he's not eligible.
