'Remarkable': Analyst stunned as new poll hits Trump on his top campaign issue

President Donald Trump is underwater with Americans who no longer trust him on the issue of immigration, which was one of his top two issues during the 2024 campaign. It comes days after polls showed that voters no longer trust him to act in the interest of national security.
In a post on X, The New Republic's Greg Sargent pointed to a newly released Quinnipiac poll, which finds a 14-point swing among Americans who want to give undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship instead of deporting them. Only 31% of Americans want to see immigrants deported. Just a few short months ago, Americans were evenly split on whether they wanted to support immigrants living in the United States.
"This is remarkable," Sargent wrote about the poll.
Sargent also pointed out just "how badly the media botched" the story about where Americans stood on immigration.

(3,217 posts)70% of women support a pathway to citizenship, only 24% of women want deportations.
On almost every issue it is men that keep him floating. His numbers with women are bad. Really bad.

(18,935 posts)Immigration was a flashpoint going into the 2024 presidential election, and it remains President Donald Trump's strongest issue in a recent poll.
A NBC News Decision Desk Poll released June 15, conducted along with SurveyMonkey, found that 45% of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, while 55% disapprove. Those figures remain unchanged from an NBC News survey in April. (The survey was conducted among 19,410 adults nationwide between May 30 and June 10. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.)
According to the survey, 51% of Americans approve of Trumps handling of border security and immigration, while 49% disapprove, the exception to his negative overall rating.

(13,631 posts)But at least some balked when they realized that farm workers, landscapers, house cleaners, the people who ran their favorite Mexican restaurant, people they knew and liked were also targets and were being deported and sent to prisons for life when they had no criminal records, and indeed included children who are US citizens.

I have to remind myself of this often. That most people around the world live their lives without killing other people or even harming them in malicious ways. I've seen violence and cruelty but those occasions are rare compared to what most people experience.
