I'm not that familiar with her but I watched because of the DU people who quoted her in the past and I wanted to learn more about her.
So, (for those like me) she lived through both WW1 and WW2 as an adult and was passionate about philosophy. She was recognized as an important thinker at an early age.
The thing that stood out most to me was her recognition of the lies as essential to Hitler's takeover of the populace. It's not talked about enough IMO with Krasnov. Also, the fact that she was Jewish is essential to her experience.
1 hour 23 minutes . Hope the link works as I have both Passport and the app. It's well worth your time I think, especially if you don't know much about her other than some quotes, like me.
And thank you du for making me curious about her. You are invaluable.

(28,630 posts)I had read Origins of Totalitarianism in college (45 years ago.....), but really didn't know much about her life beyond that she had fled Nazism in Germany. It was fascinating to learn about her relationship with Martin Heidigger, whose ideas I also encountered in college. Seems she had a very complicated life.

(3,107 posts)Not surprised he became a Nazi. But I envy the big ideas that were considered important back then.
I think that science has surpassed philosophy lately, like in the past hundred years, and I'm fine with that.

(6,076 posts)Not figuratively but the GOP brought almost 80,000 Nazi families in 1953 at the start of them being back in the White House after a 20 year absence. I know as I had a history teacher who's dad was Admaral of the flag ship of the Nazi (German) navy. He got to be a Senate page at the age of 16 in 1953. Keating from the S&L crisis had Nazi parents too.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
