The United States tried presidents who were smart, decent, and capable of empathy, but decided it wasnt for them. It just didnt reflect them.

(7,591 posts)As a taxpayer, I object. Let the G.O.P. billionaires pay for their own gourmet luxury golffe,
and their lobster tail lunches.
Why do US taxpayers get the bill for this shit?
Are magats really on board with this? Is that what they want their taxes to fund? Not too savvy, to say the least.

(24,366 posts)Robert DeNiro does a nice voice-over while Congressman Dick Smothers goes back to his luxury comped casino suite with his female companion.
Says something like "he earned that life" when he got elected.
We pay for all kinds of things we never should pay for, like CosPlay Ice Barbie Kristi Noem's action figure photo ops.
The only way we could ever change it would be for the politicians receiving these perks to vote against them, which I like to refer to as "This will never happen."

(14,624 posts)We just had a guy named Jesús and his crew show up to redo the roofing job that wasn't quite correctly done a couple of years ago. They had to take off part of the flashing and siding to do it. They were already hard at it when I came home from the shelter the other day. I watched them taking off the siding and numbering the pieces as they went. Jesús was the only one who spoke more or less fluent English. It rained hard a couple of days later. No leaks. Gracias, Jesús y sus empleados!
Try to get a buncha white guys to do that in this heat!

(24,366 posts)I'm sure he sees the Democratic victims as just another collection of "suckers and losers."
When it's time for his dirt nap, Republicans are going to howl and wail and moan in ways never imagined when we fail to "take a knee" for his memory.

Kindness, humility and grace.
And yes, I miss him.

(278 posts)America once sought leaders with grace,
With smarts and a kindhearted face.
But voters said, "Nope,
That just ain't our scope
We prefer someone loud, just in case."
The U.S. once gave it a try
A president thoughtful and spry.
But folks weren't enthused,
Just puzzled and bruised:
"Too nice! Wheres the rage and the lie?"
