| The midterms can't and won't be canceled- Trump is NOT omnipotent, and the states & the people aren't powerless | |

(37,242 posts)Most dictatorships still have elections. All the correct people win with stunning percentages of unanimous votes. It adds the fog of legitimacy and an ego boost.

(37,242 posts)They're in year 40-something of a long and largely successful pogrom. Give them time.

(21,778 posts)So, we wont let them.

(2,511 posts)He could announce that they are cancelled, but that doesn't mean that they won't happen.
Fiendish Thingy
(21,778 posts)Just as many things he says arent true and dont happen.
But some things people fear he will definitely say, he doesnt.

(21,778 posts)I remember when Bush canceled the elections after 9/11
oh wait
Well, I definitely remember learning how Lincoln cancelled all elections during the civil war, and appointed himself to a second term
oh wait

(21,309 posts)A civil war certainly seems like grounds to do it.

(21,778 posts)States control the elections, and if Lincoln attempted to cancel them, what would have stopped the remaining states from completely dissolving the union, handing the confederacy a de facto victory?

(6,870 posts)But I am completely certain they are working on making sure their people are in place to steal them. Their fake polling outlets are multiplying, in order to bring down the averages which now show Democrats with a distinct advantage over Republicans on the generic ballot.
The Democratic party does not seem to have the apparatus or ability to prevent this from happening. Not that they've shown, anyway.

(40,106 posts)If the 2024 election was stolen, the apparatus to steal future elections are still in place so no need to outright cancel.
Fiendish Thingy
(21,778 posts)So far, nobody has brought any evidence to court establishing those ifs as facts.
P.S. If the apparatus is still in place to steal elections, theyre gonna have to guess which of the 435 races to steal to keep the republicans in control of the house.

(40,106 posts)Many here do and for those who also think that Trump will cancel the 2026 election, Im saying that thered be no reason to cancel as theyll just steal it.
A number of House seats are in solid red districts and a number of seats are in safe blue districts. Theyd just have to figure how many of seats in toss up districts theyd have to steal in order to keep control of the House.
Fiendish Thingy
(21,778 posts)Then theyd have to do it.

(30,947 posts)They will pick their strategy depending on how much opposition there is. Stealing works for them, apparently.

(1,102 posts)You are right about that. It was not needed when we have an electoral college system that can easily overcome the will of the people.
Now to get to the OP's point, I have no doubt that Trump will do everything in his power to disrupt the midterm and the 2026 elections. Start a war in the Middle East? Deploy National Guard en masse in the weeks before the elections? Assign part of his private goons to watch the polls to ensure that we have a "fair election"?
He could do any and all of these things and more now that the SCOTUS has given him unlimited power.
And the people in this country are braindead enough to stay away from the polls huddling in fear.
The system we have can be legally manipulated by any number of methods. The methods may be unethical but they arent criminal.

(4,683 posts). . . of the mid-terms on the basis of his "inherent" powers to protect national security. Of course, an actual cancellation involves a lot more. He will probably not make such an announcement, but it is not a bad idea to consider the possibility that he might do so.
Many DUers feel that Trump wants to be declared President and Ultimate Authorirarian for Life. I am not going to spend thinking about that possibility now. But I belive is is okay to keep that thought in the back of my mind. I base that thought upon my contacts which I have had with MAGAs the past five years.
