(69,648 posts)He made a point of saying that he himself doesn't use that phrase. He defends the right of others to use the phrase, and that's a constitutionally protected right.
There's a wide range of opinions about Israel among American Jews. Quite a few Jewish people in NYC voted for Mamdani.

(10,358 posts)While I'll admit that I'm not that involved in New York City politics and don't want to be, I'd like to point out that great city of London in the United Kingdom has Sadiq Khan as its mayor since 2016 and hasn't sunken beneath the Thames River. The Brits are still being Brits, Churches, Synagogues and Sikh temples are still open, and by and large the women of London have eschewed wearing Burqas.

(69,648 posts)The responses to Mamdani's win are really disappointing.
I've tended to bat away accusations that some conservative bloc of elderly Democratic politicians is trying to squelch innovation but recent events are making me take a closer look.
Mamdani won the Democratic primary in NYC. Cuomo lost. Done. It's over. Get behind Mamdani and get him elected mayor. Do people want Adams again?! A Republican?!

Although he is unlike Harris in most ways, they do share the characteristic of being joyful warriors, and I hope that serves him well in the face of the attacks and sabotage that are sure to come his way during the campaign.
