Doesn't seem to be much to celebrate this 4th of July.

Although I don't usually do much for the 4th other than use the long weekend to visit family. This year just doesn't put me in a festive mood at all - in fact, I think it sucks.

I just don't care for US politics, and especially not for Texas, my home.

"How dare you jeopardize our cause! When we've come so far! These men (women, people, immigrants, POC, LGBTQ), no matter how much you disagree with them, are not ribbon clerks to be ordered about...so either learn how to live with them, or pack up and go home!"

With all that our so called "representative government" is doing I see nothing to celebrate. I'm brown skinned and starting to be uncomfortable going to places like home improvement stores. I've told many people that I don't live in the country I thought I did. Nope, nothing to celebrate this year...or likely the coming years as well.

Morale has evaporated at work (Fed employee), the country is de-evolving, many Americans are absolutely uneducated and nasty.

Not an occasion to celebrate.

And that’s by contemplating how much better off we’d all be if the British had won the war. Hope everyone has a good treason day. 😉

They knew they were not far into what would be a years-long fight.

After all, they had already known troops in the street, already seen attacks against people who wanted fair government and fair taxation.

They didn't know how that fight would turn out, and we don't either.

This year, we need to go back to basics, and take a page from our forebears.

area but even if she lived in blue area we wouldn't feel like expressing patriotism in that way. Not only is it hard to recognize our country these days, but the idea of replicating bombs exploding while there are actual bombs exploding on people doesn't sit well.

This orange taco Hitler, his repuke congress and the right wing media has destroyed our democracy, freedom and compassion for our fellow American native born, naturalized and those who are applying for legal status.

I so want karmic payback to hit the repukes, their media and the magaloon idiot in the the whitehouse.

And I will not be enjoying July 4th it’ll just be another day off to be lazy.

We're going to have a quiet evening in the backyard, just the two of us and the animals, giving honor to typical Americans who embody courage, kindness and resilience over celebs, cable news hosts, and commercial sponsors.

It's not blind celebration, but acknowledgment of both the ideals and the failures we've accomplished together. She said, 'tink of it like lighting a sparkler for hope, not for what is, but for what can be.' So that's what we're doing- celebrating ideals, not reality.

I think it was Skittles who once posted “someone’s always here.” That simple statement has really meant something pretty deep to me.

It tells me it’s possible to find fellow like-minded travelers at any hour of the day or night. And if my husband’s asleep, I can still find someone to share comments and observations with. At any hour. Cuz DU spans multiple time zones. So yeah. It’s really true: you’ll always find somebody awake and at least minimally participating here (if not more so)! That’s one thing I have always enjoyed about DU.
