They were down there visiting his wife's dad and other family. His wife is a citizen but she kept her last name; the kids use a hyphenated version of the two last names. Both my sister-in-law and I fretted until they got home.

They had a non-stop flight from Mexico City to Minneapolis. I don't know if it helped coming through customs in Minneapolis rather than close to the border or not, but they had no issues. My nephew said the TSA/Custom people barely paid them any attention.
