After hours of stalemate, Republicans in the US Senate have narrowly passed Donald Trump's mega-bill on tax and spending, meaning the proposed legislation has cleared one of its key hurdles.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed with Vice-President JD Vance casting a tie-breaking vote after more than 24 hours of debate.

It now heads back to the House, or lower chamber, where it still faces more opposition. An earlier version was cleared by House Republicans by a single-vote margin.

Trump had given the Republican-controlled Congress a deadline of 4 July to send him a final version of the bill to sign into law.

But disputes over the deficit, social programmes and spending levels could create delays, with the president conceding on Tuesday morning it would be "very hard" to meet that deadline.

Despite efforts to galvanise his party, Senate Majority Leader John Thune lost three Republicans - Maine's Susan Collins, North Carolina's Thom Tillis and Kentucky's Rand Paul - in the narrow vote. Collins, Tillis and Paul joined all Democrats in voting against the bill.

You know it must be garbage if she took a stand.

As for the cowards who voted in favor of it, may they die with much pain.

The GOP can count, too, and they knew it may have been close but Shady would break the tie.

There were probably five or six republicans who said that they would like permission to vote against it, but that they would support it if needed.

Tillis may be the only exception.

The hold up was figuring out exactly which 3 GOP senators would vote “No.” the rest was theater.

It will be the KILL SHOT for the bottom 99%...................Cutting out programs we depend on, and as if that was not enough money, borrowing an additional FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS on top of it all .......as the best gift of all time to the Upper 1% and Corporations.

their big bugaboo meme was all about the national debt. I doubted very much if they even understood what that meant, but they latched onto "oh my, the Democrats have run up a huge national debt with Obamacare". Blah, blah.

I now doubt they'll get excited about the 5 trillion.

With Senator John McCain.

The three no votes didn't mean shit, they take turns knowing it won't matter in the end but they can run on......
It was the fourth no that required courage, Josh Hawley had none, Murkowski had non and neither did anyone else.
Here's what else no one is talking about. If, and it's a mighty big if, Dems win back the House and Senate, and happened to get a bill passed and signed, the new true backstop against any of those programs being restored will get shot down by the Supremes on some technical ground.
We've made the mistake for over 40 years now thinking these guys don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and all the while, everything, and I mean everything has gone exactly according to plan.
Wake up America, this is part of a precise recipe where many more ingredients are required to completely bake this cake.
This isn't Goober and his pals from the garage running things, this is a systematic assault on everything we've stood for.
