I dont know about you guys, but these packs are hitting me at the wrong time. Tell me exactly who you are. Tell me exactly what youre going to do. Show me for 6 months how hard you can fight for whatever Democratic position youre fighting for, then maybe Ill cut loose with some cash. The things I want to see our leaders doing right now dont cost a fucking nickel.

(4,529 posts)My mom fell for one that was supposedly Rachel Maddow. It wasn't. These filthy scammers often use celebrities in their schemes. AI makes it worse.

(40,611 posts)You reply STOP & get new ones from a slightly different number. If candidates want more contributions, fix this shit!!! Not a day goes by I don't get at least 8-10 texts from some dem org & it was INSANE during the campaign!!

(73,247 posts)i remember when email was a very useful tool. these days i barely look at it, its nothing but a swamp of spam. half from ppl i bought 1 thing from 1 time, the other half pols.
but the texts, man. i just refuse to let that happen to texts. ive started cussing them out. at least my email doesnt ping at me every time a piece of shit lands.
and its a pity. small dollar donations tilted the playing field. these days i dont think anyone knows how to raise money any other way. or do w/o money, for that matter.

(2,369 posts)This is how to muddy the waters and wreck their spam databases. Use the 1-hour temporary email services. Rotate Google Voice numbers as spam boxes, give fake phone numbers or (extra points) give them the number of a particularly obnoxious MAGAt. You do not owe them ways to be able to bother you.

(40,611 posts)Maybe they could try being polite. Better yet, maybe our lawmakers asking for money could write legislation to stop the worst of this abuse.

(150,521 posts)There will never be an end to folks asking for your money. Just say no and make your own choices of recipients. Delete the texts and emails without even paying attention to them. Donate as YOU choose.

(2,369 posts)We have so many important efforts we can donate to, from pro-choice orgs to womens orgs to antiracist groups to environmental/conservation (this is the worst funded of all types of nonprofit). The arts are a luxury for people who are so comfortable that they can afford to donate purely for pleasure while others are losing health care, being abducted off the streets, or even dying.

These PACs and campaigns are great at separating fools from their money, while delivering nothing. Theyre just another obnoxious televangelist grifting for cash. On top of that, in this political climate you have no idea if its real or a scam, and nobody should be clicking links in text messages or emails, or giving to anything they connect to.
Dems need to be judicious with their money, and only donate to specific candidates who are proving to be winners, or coming into a primary with tough messaging and a real track record either politically or in organizing and helping their community.
Even as Im writing this, I got another one of these messages from a campaign I told to STOP more than once. Its my second unwelcome televangelist grift text of the day.
We have the power to make change in a flailing, weak, and too-comfortable party. I urge you to give money, but be HIGHLY SELECTIVE, and do not give them either legitimate emails (use a 1 hr burner email service) or phone number. Cut off their ability to mass-troll for cash, do not give to any Dem group from PACs to DNC that will funnel your donation to any campaigns but where you want it to go (yes, I know they have to share some, but we can minimize that), and get real, solid Dems into office in not only national and statewide offices, but LOCAL.

(560 posts)It doesn't matter if I text stop. It doesn't matter who promises to get me off the list. The spam just keeps coming.
I've blocked, reported and saved 192 phone numbers since Sep of 2024. Apparently I gave too much? Gave outside my district? I don't know but they keep coming no matter what I do.
I am literally considering forming a 527 so I can keep my privacy and still give. Until I get that setup I've stopped giving altogether.
