Encounter with a Trump humper

Yesterday, I had to run up to the hardware store to grab something for a kitchen project I had to complete and I was pretty frustrated with the whole project at that point. As I was walking up to the front door, a tiny old man began talking to me as he was walking into the store. He pointed out that two guys working on the front of the building were attaching something because of Trump.
I had no idea what he was talking about but he seemed to be praising/crediting Trump for some reason. I was already in a bad mood from the kitchen project and I literally snapped at this guy. I won't tell you what I said to him because it wasn't kind or necessary but I will tell you that in that moment I realized that I am just done with these morons. I don't have any shits left to give. After snapping at him, I just kept walking like anything he had to say was so irrevant that I wouldn't even slow my stride to even bother conversing with him. It didn't feel good saying what I said, but at the same time I don't regret my response. We live in confusing times.

Walk right up to a stranger in a public place and start spewing their garbage about how great he is? I can’t tell you how many times that has happened to me. I would never walk up to a total stranger and start blabbering my political views. Maybe they think because I am white that surely I must be a rump humper like them? I usually just ignore and walk right past.

3. I get that, too. I am an old white guy who looks like a farmer. I reckon they think that makes me sympatico.

It's another parallel with the cult-like behavior of these people.

They just can't believe all the white men don't worship the same savior as they do. They are shocked when you reveal yourself as an apostate.

I get the loo-loo’s, mostly men, coming up to me or trying to talk while waiting in a line, “Thank God we have a decent President now” or some such b.s. I had a guy follow me out to my car once who wouldn’t shut up! I’m not young anymore but I’m a white female so maybe they think I’m an easy mark or on their side. If only they knew how most women detest the Traitor.

5. I wonder why they feel so emboldened to give their unasked for opinion and then expect an in kind response

I’m getting real tired of them and lately have been more outspoken than usual. It’s starting to feel empowering, to tell ya the truth, as I’ve usually just walked away not happy for keeping my comments to myself. No more! I will try to be as kind about it as I can but to the point. It’s gonna help my blood pressure, too, I bet.

6. It is very akin to religious people assuming i believe what they believe.

I can't tell you how many times my beliefs are assumed by the faith community. I don't believe anything they believe but imagine if I assumed that they were nonbelievers. How well would that go over?

... may have opinions that differ from theirs. I've seen this in the evangelical community as well. And yes, it helps that you're white...they feel you are much more likely to agree with them if they love the right wing nuts.

...any topic unless they have given a clear indication in one way or another that we likely share views on a potential topic.

During the first Obama administration, I picked up a magazine about him at the grocery checkout lane. Some old white dude behind me in the line said something along the line of, "You're not gonna buy that magazine with him on the cover, are you?" I'm not at all confrontational (cowardly to a fault), but I shot him a steely look and said, "Don't start with me." He didn't say anything else.

The only comments I ever make to people I don't know are polite compliments about a cool hair style, interesting clothing or jewelry item, a cute baby, or the like. People get enough negative stuff in their lives, so I like to dispense unexpected compliments when the opportunities arise. Generally well received.

It's like punching a Nazi. Something that is perfectly acceptable among decent people.

Some of these "trump humpers" don't hesitate to confront me about my bumper stickers, and they aren't looking for conversation. They strut and point and bellow and accuse, then march off very proud of how they told off the old lady breathing from an oxygen tank attached to her walker.
