It is infuriating to have a political discussion with these people. What do you say to them, without a full diatribe or just going silent?
I'm thinking it's not worth my time, but I'd be interested in what other DUers have to say.

(106,165 posts)and you're infuriated that anyone could disagree? ie, does "these people" mean "anyone who think there are issues other than abortion", or does "these people" mean a different group?

(68,173 posts)Somehow, abortion rights are considered of lesser importance than foreign policy, or education issues, or the economy. Especially the economy. Which is why I frame abortion rights as an economic issue but it seems that the word "abortion" is somehow a discussion ender.

(106,165 posts)Your order of importance differs. It doesn't seem surprising that someone could think that other issues rank above abortion (eg Trump's attempt to get king-like power, and the Supreme Court going along with it).
it ISN'T the only issue
they're not just anti-women, they are anti-POC, anti-LGBTQ, anti-vaccine, anti-science, anti-any human fucking decency, etc

(68,173 posts)Can you imagine saying "the economy isn't the only issue." Of course it's not! But abortion gets treated as a lesser consideration. And of course abortion IS an economic issue also! But somehow that doesn't register with these people...

(171,645 posts)I HAVE heard that supposedly abortion is a SINGLE issue for some repuke voters but I don't believe that, they're just garden-variety bigots

(3,295 posts)They can profess their love for the unborn innocent little wannabe baby all the while ignoring their inherent bigotry. At least that is my experience in dealing with the fetal fetishists in my family.

(171,645 posts)if they DID they would support easy access to birth control, food assistance for needy families, low cost day care, etc. but THEY DON'T
they're absolute fucking sanctimonious HYPOCRITES
But they use that smarmy concern for the unborn all the time. The ones I am familiar with are chickenshit cowards with too many guns and ignorance on a scale last seen in fourth grade.

(5,484 posts)They know they're evil. But they cloak every morally bad act with the excuse of opposition to abortion. It lets them partition the worthy and unworthy poor at the first breath.
For sure, they'd pay for their sister's abortion. But sanctimony on the issue allows the cruelty without the influence of moral distress

(44,738 posts)If I change the subject to another then youll state that is not the only issue.
Trump loves you. Is that your only issue?
Im not talking at you CTyankee, just trying to lend a hand.

(2,369 posts)It means bodily autonomy and personhood for 50% of the population. Thats enough to be an only issue.

(38,694 posts)The ones that attend Mass weekly and hear anti-choice rhetoric from celibates. That is their foremost issue.
