They're going to try their best to put those cuts on Democrats should we win the House. If Dems were to win in 2026, and I think Dems will, it'll be Democrats' problem to fix. The picture will be painted that if Dems don't fix it, it's their fault.

(6,512 posts)delay the harm's impact until after the midterms. Still believe a majority Dem House and Senate could clip the harm of this bill -- and (in my ideal world) impeach djt for all of his blatant corruption.

(1,977 posts)needs to hammer that home. Repubs lied to you before and they are lying now because they know once you figure it out after they are elected there is not a damn thing you can do.
I hope the law of unintended consequences (food costs, employment, hiking healthcare premiums, FEMA screw ups and abandoned communities after disasters) results in too many people raging at their reps before those dates even occur and they are run out of town!!

(1,032 posts)...voters that will actually show up--and hopefully bring in some new voters. Yes, the Big BS Bill is unpopular today, but by next week it will feel like six months of news has gone by and most Americans will not even remember it ever happened. This is something that the Rs know well--and they exploit it.
The only thing most people will remember about the legislation will be the lies that the Orange Abomination will endlessly tell--every damn day. By the time we get to NEXT November too many people will be convinced that electing Democrats will mean a tax increase for their family and that the immigrants will take over their town again--even though they never took it over in the first place. That is all the Republicans need to sell, and it is pretty easy to sell fear.
Democrats are going to have to learn to counter simple lies with simple truths--not endless numbers--12 million this; 20 million that; one-in-five whatever.... People do not connect with numbers. You have to talk to people about their own situation--not the situation of millions of people they do not believe they even know.
And they must hammer the simple truths home day-in and day-out on all forms of media they can get or buy time on. The Administration will throw so many distractions out there every day to knock Democrats off their message--a tactic that has worked well so far. But Dems have to learn to never relent on their core messages to get voters into their column.
And I would also put forth that it can't be a message that the government is going to fix everything if you just elect Democrats. Most people--even Democrats--don't actually trust the government. It will take time to get back to where people trust the government enough for those kinds of solutions. The spirit of the Constitution should inform us as to our direction. When the very thing that actually made America is being undermined so blatantly under the guise of making America great "again," its power as a founding document needs to be front-and-center in the effort to get America back to the values that actually make America the beautiful, flawed, contradictory, land of opportunity it once was.

To be successful, Dems must clearly, succinctly, point this out in the midterms. Our chief dilemma, imo, is that we're battling a cult following. That's a unique factor in modern politics, but somehow our message has to break through.

(1,032 posts)the lies and broken promises have been a mainstay for at least 50 years now with incredibly few political downsides. That is one thing that is such a challenge for Democrats: so much of the electorate already knows that but votes for them anyway. Many people prefer it that way. Much of advertising is based on that fact.
The cult part is definitely a huge challenge. But it is notable that cults tend to fall apart once the cultists see the truth about the leader. Sometimes the consequences are incredibly severe by the time that happens. But the Democrats need to absolutely be focused on the fact that they are dealing with a cult, and using tactics that would normally apply to someone brainwashed by a charismatic leader. Thinking we are playing politics-as-usual is a losing strategy--to your excellent point.

(798 posts)them. Remember Bush rightfully got all the blame for the '08 financial crisis despite Democrats having control of both houses. Same thing will happen in 2028 that Trump will get all the blame since he's the President. That's how the game goes.
