House republicans and trump for this horrible bill since 5:00 A.M. EST, calling them out for the cuts they are inflicting on the most vulnerable in our society.
He is calling them out by name.
House leaders can speak for an unlimited time according to House rules, and Hakkem Jeffries is in no hurry to give up the floor.

(5,545 posts)to the heart of the problem, the education of the electorate. The deliberate mal-education and ignorance of the electorate.
Sure, one third of the electorate are authoritarians. And one third are anti-authoritarian. But the third in the middle who don't really care as long as they get their hamberders and sportsball, many of these people could be converted into anti-authoritarians if they could be educated to understand that their access to their hamberders and sportsball is going to be restricted by the authoritarians.
We can't expect to have a democracy which produces good results for the general population with an ignorant electorate anymore than an authoritarian electorate would produce good results for the general population.

(447 posts)The tax cuts will happen quickly but the spending cuts are delayed. Haven't seen the timeline for the final version, but the Senate version pushed many of the unpopular cuts out into the 2028/2029 time frame. The pricks know we are going to take the House and maybe the Senate and Oval Office by then and they are going to lie and blame Democrats. MAGA is stupid enough to believe it.

(13,003 posts)that even if the Dems had the House and Senate SUPER majority AND the presidency. for TWENTY PLUS years........If they did nothing else, it would take them DECADES, to just straighten out what has already been done in the two trump periods so far, maybe even decades more if Trump finishes out this term........Seriously folks........
AND, there is certainly a distinct possibility that if the Republicans continue at their current pace for the next 3 1/2 years......recovery would be an impossibility........Game over, done.......
And it is not JUST the U.S they are screwing up,..........but the entire world changes caused by this group of RepubliCONs.......
I often ask.......Do these RepubliCONs and 74 Million MAGAot Voters have children and/or grand children, or is it that they just plain don't care about them, only about themselves..........I fear it is the later..........

(182,138 posts)Three months after Sen. Cory Booker broke his chamber's record for the longest speech ever, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries broke the House's record.
Obviously, what matters is the impact the Republican megabill will have on the public, but as symbolic developments go, it was good to see @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social break the record for the longest speech in House history. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/hakeem-jeffries-house-floor-speech-record-trump-bill-rcna216772
As of 1:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, Jeffries was continuing to deliver remarks after speaking for more than eight hours and 35 minutes.
During congressional debates, the vast majority of members are only allowed to deliver brief, minute-long remarks. But three members the House speaker, majority leader and minority leader can exploit what are known as magic minutes, allowing them to speak as long as they wish.
In 2018, for example, Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, the House minority leader at the time, stood on the House floor for over eight hours, seeking a vote on protections for Dreamers. It broke the institutions record for the longest speech ever delivered on the House floor.
Three years later, then-Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California broke Pelosis record, holding the floor to condemn the Democrats Build Back Better legislation.
Now, its Jeffries, who made a devastating case against the inaptly named One Big Beautiful Bill Act, who holds the top slot.

......The Democratic leader might not have changed any GOP minds, but his record-breaking presentation brought some much-needed attention to the case against the most regressive legislative package in at least a generation.
