Nobody should be celebrating July 4th

I have no intention of celebrating tomorrow. There's nothing to celebrate. I hope the people in our neighborhood who usually do the "safe and sane" fireworks hold off this year (and while Trump is still around). This country has nothing to celebrate.

1. Oddly, I've heard fewer than usual fireworks in the leadup week to the 4th...

Usually it's several days worth of sounding like a war zone in my neighborhood. This year, a few scattered booms and such, but not really much.

Not feeling very celebratory, to be sure. A quieter 4th is fine by me.

But I've also noticed way more booms during the day this year. Never understood shooting them off when you can't see the explosions as well!

Whenever I see patriotism on TV or at some game, it all seems so performative.

Free America' Event Locations on July Fourth Weekend
Women's March, the organization behind "Free America Weekend," is calling on people to join or host events over the coming holiday weekend.

"We invite communities to create their own Free America events—rallies, marches, block parties, banner drops, street parades, art builds, backyard BBQs, dance protests, and more," the Women's March website said.

"They want us scared, divided, and alone. They don't want us to dream about freedom. But that's exactly what we have to do," it continued. "This Fourth of July, we will be in the streets with songs of freedom and joy. The dream of American freedom belongs to all of us, and we will not stop in our pursuit of its promise, now or ever."

Will watch TV all day and mourn the loss of our country. RIP America 1776-2025.

I am embarrassed to be an American and sad how low our country has become.

concert after a Dave's Hot Chicken picnic dinner. We always leave before the fire works.

Not really a celebration as much as a tradition, most of those in attendance would agree this will be a weird Independence Day.

Will have fireworks for the first time since 2017. Too many fires, Covid, more fires.

Republicans have the edge on patriotism and selling that we hate America. There's nothing wrong with celebrating the parts of America that are good while working on improving other areas.

However, our neighbors in the area had what I think was the loudest "celebration" I can remember in all the years we've lived here. Illegal fireworks are banned in our city, though "safe and sane" are not. There were a lot of both last night. I wrote the city council this a.m., though it won't do a thing.
