Imagine Trump being the President instead of Teddy Roosevelt in 1902.

Jews fleeing the Tsar and Italians fleeing poverty arriving at Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Denied citizenship, then rounded up and put in detention camps and sent to third countries because they aren't citizens. (Circular reasoning) And all this before Hitler. The Eugenics Movement was a strong force in this country and Trump would have been fully supportive. He HAD TO protect white nativism in this country and HAD TO do "something".

The national attack on Hispanics is nothing more than ethnic cleansing.

No Irish need apply. No W.O.P. s either. Not to mention other ethnicities that interfaced with the immigration system. Which was, btw, staffed with other nationalities, such as German. Illiteracy meets English as a second language made for some interesting spellings. All handwritten, in censuses too, and some scrawled more than wrote. One side could only pronounce their names, while the other took it phonetically. Many didn't exactly know when they were born because it had been written in the family Bible, which they hadn't seen but a few times.

Tenements were not brownstones. Emma Goldman and socialists had their run. Trump would have hated the place, and his popularity wouldn't have made him dog catcher.

From Teddy Roosevelt's speech in 1910 (after he left ofice):

The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and … a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate.
