just a few hours after djt and Noem visited the prison camp. Guess DeSantis goofed again and Florida's stuck with the bill.In a court filing Thursday responding to a lawsuit from environmental groups, the DHS claimed that it had not implemented, authorized, directed or funded the construction of the new ICE detention center made up of tents on a defunct airstrip in Miami-Dade County.
Florida is constructing and operating the facility using state funds on state lands under state emergency authority and a preexisting general delegation of federal authority to implement immigration functions, the filing said.
Environmental groups had alleged that in addition to skipping the necessary environmental reviews, the DHS had violated the Administrative Procedure Act by failing to provide a window for public notice and comment. The DHS argued that because it had not been involved in approving construction, the final agency action that the Administrative Procedure Act requires as a prerequisite to judicial review is entirely absent here.

OP
My recollection is that DeSantis thought he was building a valid deportation camp.

(52,625 posts)2. Truly irresponsible.
It sounds like opportunists in Florida, who jumped the gun, thought they were going to get Federal funding for the project. Build it an the federal money will come.
And the worst part is that if they followed process, all of this would have been revealed and the Florida taxpayer would have been upset about funding this mess.

It was constructed in a couple days, so it didn't go through the proper regulatory process. Appears to have been done to please King Donald.
Can't decide who -- DeSantis or djt -- is the more stupid. Every day it seems like we're facing issues we never had to worry about. All because Repukes are bigoted haters being led by the King of Bigoted Hatred.
