Missed Opportunity

After Rep. Hakeem Jeffries concluded his long, interesting and moving speech, and after the Missouri guy was done, Mike Johnson took the podium. If ever there was a time to bring the country together in a moment of division it was then. What he should have said was, “We have heard from Rep Jeffries, my worthy opponent. His concerns are our concerns, too. We agree that Americans deserve the best of education, health care, support in hard times. We just go about it differently.” Instead, smirking about the size of the bill, he implied, plainly, that Rep. Jeffries was a liar, to the amusement of the white men behind him.

The Speaker of the House has no integrity, no character, no decency. He’s the kind of person who says cruel things with a smile on his little face. Jeffries brought up such a great point in his amazing speech, referring to one of Madison’s Federalist Papers in which Madison says that Congress is a RIVAL to the President, not a partner. This role of Congress as rival has been lost. When did it die? Now is when we need it.
