No way will this weaken the Democratic party . It could weaken the Republican party. Democratic voters are not going to be attracted to Musk. That should be blatantly obvious

65 to 35 in favor of new party. How many Dems are left on twitter?
It is ripe with magats. I don’t see many Dems that would leave our party to go with muskrat. We are pissed at our so called leadership not at the core(us) of the Democratic Party.
Hopefully if he succeeds it will split the repuke party, like Ross Perot did in 92. Without him we would have had no Clinton and a second term of bush 1.

I have to think that most informed people voted for Kamala. I think the most informed voters will go with the Democratic Party in 2026 without any doubt. Many moderates and traditional Republicans tend to stray away from MAGA which is Trump's party now.
And so I agree that Elon's party will only take from MAGA - which is what they call a big open tent party for uninformed voters.
The open tent MAGA's are far-right nationalists, far-right Christians, and I don't know what you call the folks who chose RFK Jr as their Dream candidate.
Elon's still dangerous since he owns a social media, space and a satellite company and is basically a Nazi.

If Musk actually hacked and rigged the 2024 election for Trump, then we should expect his new party to sweep the midterms, and gain majorities in both the house and senate.

Speaker Musk, anyone?

(If he had the power to rig it, why wouldn’t he use it to install himself as speaker of the house? Who would stop him and tell the world he rigged it for Trump in 2024? Trump? Who else would have the knowledge and evidence to blow the lid off the whole scam in order to neuter this new party?)

Unless, of course, he didn’t rig the election.

Musk does not know how to deal with people, does not know how to build and maintain a coalition, will immediately alienate anyone who does not go along with his whimsical agenda (an agenda that will change minute by minute as his "mind like a storm" jumps from one place to another like a pinball in a machine).

Sounds like Trump, no?

But whatever the hell kind of charisma Trump has, Musk hasn't. I can't imagine him getting support from the Trump coalition after Trump has publicly humiliated him. And Democrats will not forget his disastrous DOGE adventure.

He'll play with this, it won't be as easy as he thinks, and he will give up and go back to conning governments out of money with his vaporware passenger ships to Mars and tunnels under the oceans.

Existing party infrastructure is steeped in precincts, committees, Roberts Rules, time-consuming meetings, paperwork, notarization, fees, clubs, donations, etc.

Newcomers, rather than being invited & welcomed, are perceived as work mules at best, or a threat to existing power structures at worst...

With his funds and technology, Elon could create a party oriented around 80/20 issues and a mobile app for participation. Let party participants vote on the top 5 issues for the platform (allowing for bad ideas to be filtered out), streamline registration, get rid of Roberts Rules bullies..

DNC should be eyeing this and prepare accordingly. It's not just a threat to the RNC.
