1. I am not so sure this was preventable by a fully staffed NWS.

I think the NWS angle should not be ignored, of course, and certainly to prevent similar events in areas with good local governance the Trump/Republican-generated purposeful-deficiencies at NWS must be reversed.

But in areas of bad governance and irresponsible freedumb flexing, even perfect safety warnings from federal agencies will not prevent otherwise avoidable tragedies.

2. Yeah, best not to overly focus on a single incident or a single agency. The point is

that *all* Americans benefit from well funded government agencies staffed with experts and dedicated workers who can issue timely warnings, plan for emergencies, carry out rescues, administer first aid and emergency care, get supplies to where they are needed, and help people recover from disasters.

Moreover, we need effective coordination and communication between a number of government and charitable entities at all levels of governance.

and this all should be apolitical. No one should try to gut such essential services just because they don't like the a portion of some budget is used for climate change research or whatever.

3. This was a real outlier of a storm. That much rain in that short a time causes events

to happen that are far outside the norm. There is a huge difference between 6 to 8 inches of rain moving over a given area and 14 to 15 inches concentrated in one spot and for that short amount of time. Even the best forecasters can be caught off guard if a system stalls, whether in a flood prone area or not.

I do think the local rescue teams etc should have been on their way to the area when the prediction of 6 to 8 inches was announced. Those folks could have been evacuated before the big downpour, if only because those campsites were too close to the riverbank.

now get this, they are saying the Change to his Virginia course is to save money on travel, BUT, my guess is they are worried about an Iranian attack on him now on a golf course, so they have switched up where he is going.

There is a Fatwah on his Fat ass.
