NC is a flooded mess, I-40/I-85 closed by flooding

Over 8 inches of rain caused major flooding in central North Carolina late Sunday and early Monday. The remains of TS Chantal hit particularly hard from Chapel Hill and Durham to Greensboro and southward. Nothing comparable with the Texas floods nor last year's Hurricane Helene, but still a lot of damage from a system that was barely a TS.

The Eno River in Durham rose 22 feet in 4 hours.

Hope all of you are safe and dry.

ETA http://wral.com has lots of coverage.

There is flooding along the Eno River and in northern Durham, but much of Durham didn't get as much rain.

Seven miles to the west of me areas of Chapel Hill are a mess. This storm dropped rain of different amounts unpredictably. Lower laying areas flooded.

I hope your son is ok.

9. The footage I've seen from Durham is gut wrenching. I went to school there in the 70's, and still have friends there.

Property and things can be replaced, I've been relieved to hear that unlike TX, there have been no fatalities; I hope that's still the case.

I've been looking at pictures of it all and my heart is breaking. Luckily, I think no one dead or injured here, but it could have been way worse. My DIL has been reposting stuff from around the area, I was looking while my mother was in Walmart.

I had to go to Mebane for a doctor appointment (and the Governor was there, somewhere), and things along my route looked okay. I had to take a detour because the usual way I go has a very low-lying area and was flooded. Where I'm at, I'm on higher ground, so other than the rain we were okay. Only had power flickering a few times, better than usual.

I still cry over those children swept away from the campground in Texas. None of that had to happen.

15. Oh, crap! I missed that. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, we have lots of low-lying areas.

Plenty of creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, and something happened to the dam on Lake Michael (not terribly far from where I live, been on that lake years ago).

I still can't bring myself to keep up with local or national news, so most of what I hear about is second-hand, from scanning FB and the like.
