The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW.
Absolutely outrageous.

...this is about racist thugs in authority who want to deny this Latino-rich neighborhood what most American communities take for granted. They just don't want them to have good things, so here they are terrorizing these families to frighten and intimidate them from the park built to bring people together.
2024- Councilmember Hernandez and L.A. Recreation and Parks were joined by the community to celebrate new playground in MacArthur Park.

Indicating "informants" had provided information that MS-13 controlled access to McArthur park from an large apartment across the street and that a show of force was needed to flush them out and take back the park.

A lot of the problem I see here with ICE and Border Patrol - and with a lot of policing - is that after the major push for control of Iraq and Afghanistan was over, re-enlistment bonuses dried up, and Homeland Security did a huge recruitment push to get all those young men looking at having to separate who had no other policing experience other than Counter Insurgency.
There's a whole generation of Bush era former Soldiers and Marines whose only experience with the general public is looking for IEDs and potential insurgents while they perform their missions. That's the mindset is obvious as you watch ICE try to appeal to the "Hearts and Minds" of US citizens
On Edit - I'm almost wondering if it's an Onion bit - apparently they were looking to set up a command post to keep MS 13 from using the park to hand out fake Green Cards and Work permits, and the Carls Jr. across the street was supposedly being considered...
