(6,685 posts)Winston Churchill has numerous identities as does King Arthur. Has nothing to do with whether someone actually lived or not.

minister (no longer - they divorced when he cheated on her with one of his female parishioners).
She told us about one of the congregation members who did not approve of foreign languages being taught in American schools. His rationale - If English was good enough for Jesus, its good enough for me.
How do you even begin to counteract such woeful ignorance?

(53,389 posts)It was the result of having multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching "turn the other cheek" [and] to have someone come up after to say, "Where did you get those liberal talking points?" And what was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, "I'm literally quoting Jesus Christ," the response would not be, "I apologize." The response would be, "Yes, but that doesn't work anymore. That's weak." And when we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we're in a crisis.

(1,909 posts)If you have to tell me you are Christian, it's too late. I should know from your actions. I'm sick of performative demonstrations of prayer. and declarations of Faith by luke-warm small-"c" christians. These demonstrations in Congress and the White House are an affront to the Constitution, the Public, non-Christians and Christians who believe it is a conceit, as I do.
NONE of this regime practices any part of Christianity that isn't performative, and, in fact hypocritical. Theirs is NOT God's Work. Cruelty is not among the Beatitudes, but falls under the "Seven Deadlies", and certainly not the way of a Just God..
I grew up with the notion that the Constitution prohibits the Government from establishing a State Religion. I'm good with that.
Religion Is Not Government; Government Is Not Religion; Business Is Neither. The mixture is Fascism.
Fascism Is Abomination.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
