Why can't we force all ammunition manufacturers to embed a rfid chip into each bullet made?.
We could set up rfid scanners into any gun free zone to set off alarms and begin lock down .
I can't see how this would violate any one's right to bear. I am thinking of the tracers included in explosives to track them.
The protection element of this idea would require the chip to broadcast before firing.
For those unaware rfid means radio frequency identification.

(111 posts)If not RFID, GPS - I posted an article recently in response to another thread about nanobot GPS chips. They are small enough that they are making it into a spray. So, for example, you would be misted with this stuff going through airport security so that they could look for suspicious movements.
If they can actually do this, force manufacturers to include the nano-chips in gun coatings. Because they are so small they would be incredibly hard to tamper with (the coating would contain thousands of them) and they would require little to no power. They would continue to operate until the gun was an antique.
So you could not only have them trigger alarms but you could also track a gun anywhere. If there is a shooting you could almost instantly find out what gun was used and where it is now etc.,

(10,618 posts)those loonies who stockpile guns because they are afraid of the government would do everything in their power to prevent it because they WANT to be able to hide from the government and from law enforcement. They would cite right to "privacy". And they would probably win. And the ACLU would probably help them win.

The other part is that such a system is just made for monkey wrenching. Take the chips out of the bullets and just scatter some through a school...including just before finals week.

(575 posts)I was thinking more of placing the chip in the cap of the bullet instead of the projectile.
I am afraid my engineering is not up to spec. I did read that Hitachi I think it was had made a working chip that is 0.05mm*0.05mm. which is pretty small. For it to work the gain of the x-miter would have to go up and entry to the property restricted.(in area). I can also imagine a device that imprinted into the brass.
I've no doubt, given a serious shake out the idea is feasible.
As far as monkey wrenching , would the chips not have to pass scanners to be spread in target.?
I'm just knocking this around in my head and thanks for the input.

If RFID chips are enclosed in a metal box of any kind, they cannot communicate. That is why we have people making money selling metal wallets and why using them to track bullets won't work.
I have serious doubts it technically feasible.
