Trump's new trade stance as he dictates rates: 'A letter means a deal' (Yahoo! Finance)Markets and economic observers navigated another day of Trump trade volatility Tuesday with more letters to dictate tariffs and the growing pessimism that long-promised negotiated trade deals would materialize quickly.
President Trump began the week promising a mix of "Letters, and/or Deals," but his rhetoric sharply shifted late Monday and Tuesday as he described the letters and unilaterally declared tariff rates as akin to a deal an acknowledgment that those negotiations have proven more difficult, especially with major trading partners.
"We are probably two days off from sending them a letter," he said of the closely watched negotiations with the EU Tuesday afternoon during a Cabinet meeting, offering to reporters that "I just want you to know a letter means a deal."
He said that negotiations were "too time-consuming" and "the deals are mostly my deal to them," while claiming he could make pacts and that they might come but would perhaps take years.

So, if I write a letter to GMAC saying I'll pay them $100 a month for a new Corvette, it's a deal?
