Why now? After all of the previous affairs and years together? SOMETHING has to have happened, and I'm betting it's a pregnant mistress who is playing her cards.

and decided he's had enough with Paxton making a play for his seat. My guess is she received a call telling her to abandon ship and wash her hands of him before she gets sucked down with it.
