DHS tells police to consider common protest activity as violent including riding a bike or livestreaming police.

Homeland Security urges officers to consider a range of nonviolent behavior and common protest gear—like masks, flashlights, and cameras—as potential precursors to violence, telling officers to prepare “from the point of view of an adversary.”

Protesters on bicycles, skateboards, or even “on foot” are framed as potential “scouts” conducting reconnaissance or searching for “items to be used as weapons.” Livestreaming is listed alongside “doxxing” as a “tactic” for “threatening” police. Online posters are cast as ideological recruiters—or as participants in “surveillance sharing.”

as a stand-alone, Cabinet-level department with broad powers, many predicted this agency would end up overreaching and violating Americans' civil rights. With Trump in charge, any chance we may have had to reform DHS is gone. DHS has become an out of control monster.

that DHS sounded to much like "the Fatherland"... and that it would come to absolutely no good. We needed to protest it and stop it from the very beginning. But most of the people were still in shock over 9/11 and Bush and Cheney took advantage of it. We were silenced by everyone around us... and protesters would caged blocks away from whatever they were protesting. Bush did an excellent end-run around the 1st amendment, paving the way for trump. Village Idiot.

It just needed a fascist monster like Trump for it to happen.

Amazing how quiet the right-wing has been since the government has dispersed their "jack booted thugs" around the country, eh? That was their apocalyptic nightmare for decades, but now nary a peep.

The right has never really had a problem with a dictator; only WHO the dictator is.

why does DHS feel that it has any control over local police departments or sheriffs?

This is where mayors, city councilmembers, county supervisors, and the governor need to get involved to protect their citizens' First Amendment rights!!!
