Donald Trump has reportedly been denied the chance to address parliament during his state visit to the UK.
The decision, which is likely to be seen as a major snub by the US president, comes just days after Emmanuel Macron was given the honour of addressing Parliament, where he urged Britain and France to shoulder the burden of European security together.
According to the Telegraph, Mr Trump is expected not to visit Buckingham Palace or enjoy a ceremonial carriage ride down the Mall in London, which have often been prominent features of state visits from other world leaders.
The decision came amid concerns there could be objections from both the public and MPs following calls for Mr Trump to be blocked from addressing parliament earlier this year, with MPs and peers warning the US president does not respect democracy.
Mr Trump accepted the invitation from King Charles for an unprecedented second state visit to the UK earlier this year, becoming the first US president to receive the honour.

I would expect Mango Mussolini to ask King Charles where he learned to speak Engish so beautifully; who learned him to talk good.

(949 posts)if asked what part of Canada you're from, you might want to say Vancouver. I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and when I was in Vancouver, everybody thought I was a native, 'cause the SF accent is exactly the same as in Vancouver. Once you get past the Rockies into Calgary and parts east the standard Canadian accent kicks in with lots of ":ehhs" and other features not heard in any part of the US.

(1,563 posts)When I still had cable, C-SPAN would show the weekly session Called Prime Minister's Questions,
meaning the MPs question the PM. Things sometimes got contentious.

UK folks get BBC Parliament - yeah, like C-Span but it's over the air and included with your TV licence.

(23,029 posts)They have a Speaker of the House like we do. He chairs the mertings but part of his job is also to yell "ORDERRRRR!" when things get out of hand and scold misbehaving MPs!
Here's the previous Speaker, John Bercow, in action (he has since retired and was replaced by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, but the videos I could find of him aren't as entertaining as this):

(23,029 posts)True confession: I had to do some research to be able to post this! I didn't know the names of either Mr. Bercow or Sir Lindsay, or even that the title of that office is Speaker of the House. I just knew there was a guy in the UK House of Commons who yells at people to shut up when things get too "animated," and I had seen some video of this that was very entertaining.
Google pulled up what I needed very handily, and I had a good time putting the post together. Glad you enjoyed it!

(3,305 posts)Although we are aware that you would like to insult our country and tout your golf courses, we must decline to hear your speech. Many members of Parliament, according to the most recent poll, are aware of Hannibal Lecter and the rest do not care.
Sincerely yours,
The UK
P.S. We will be counting the silver, before and after your visit.

(23,029 posts)But Schlump will no doubt be treated with the barest minimum of fanfare possible for a visiting head of head of state. I think he's too addled to recognize the low key snub, unfortunately.
P.S. He saw how obliviously rude you were to his mother, Donnie, and it's a safe bet he hasn't forgotten. I'd tell you to watch your step over there, IF I thought you were capable of heeding such advice!

(106,757 posts)and when Buckingham Palace is undergoing renovation. So basically it was "you must come and see us! OK, here's the date - oh, just realised all the family's away that week, and the house is being fumigated. Never mind, we can go out somewhere - I hear you like McDonald's?"
