https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/us-aware-reported-death-american-after-beating-by-israeli-settlers-2025-07-12/U.S. citizen Sayafollah Musallet, 20, also known as Saif, was severely beaten in the incident on Friday evening in Sinjil, north of Ramallah, the ministry said. Hussein Al-Shalabi, 23 was shot in the chest.
Musallet's family, from Tampa Florida, said in a statement that medics tried to reach him for three hours before his brother managed to carry him to an ambulance, but that he died before reaching the hospital.
"This is an unimaginable nightmare and injustice that no family should ever have to face. We demand the U.S. State Department lead an immediate investigation and hold the Israeli settlers who killed Saif accountable for their crimes," the family statement said.

(1,390 posts)I would probably advise anyone not to venture in to a hot war zone of any kind...He should have stayed home in Tampa. if I ambled into Somalia, I might wake up dead myself.
That's kinda like a redneck might say:
"Watch this and hold my beer", and it usually ends poorly.

(61,094 posts)I would agree with you that Gaza is a hot war zone. In reality, the West Bank settlers have become more aggressive as the Gaza war has continued.

(1,390 posts)The likelihood of getting deaded is much higher there than in Tampa...I am not talking about religious or media reasons, ethnic fights, etc...I care about staying alive.
Stay home and away from any war zone if possible.

(61,094 posts)One part of the problem here is that the settlers, basically condoned by Israel, are attacking Palestinians. The settlers involved need to be arrested and charged for the two murders.
As far back as the Carter years, these settlements were illegal. Since then, many were "declared legal" by Israel. However, even those Israel considers illegal are tolerated and defended. This is slow motion taking more and more land for more settlements.
This coupled with wanting to control parts of Gaza leaves Palestinians less and less land. Yet, some here might consider my comments antisemitic.

(1,390 posts)I said it's not smart to travel to war zones unless you want to get killed.
I am not talking about what/who/why anyone decides to go there, and that includes any war zone from Syria to Congo to Gaza.
Wise people don't intentionally travel to areas they stand a high probability to get killed.
