fwiw, as a retired phd neuropsychologist, on clinical staff at MGH/HMS for a decade, i administered scores and scores of that very test he took. and i can with every confidence tell you this, it quite seriously takes no more than a turnip to 'pass' the damn test. it's a screening measure to check for brain damage or dementia, so any errors stick out like a sore thumb. and that list of words he was so proud to recall? not a single one of them is on that test!! the fact he forgot what words were on the test, only days after, is a very telling sign.
