(35,102 posts)Finally, he got a home heathcare worker to come out
and treat the ulcer in one of his legs but it didn't
look to me that it helped all that much.
The main issue with it was pain.
cally
(21,865 posts)Was this a common symptom for this condition? Others (without direct knowledge like your family) are suggesting less painful symptoms.
The area wasn't getting enough blood supply to heal the ulcer.
They tried some sort of procedure to widen the vein, but it
didn't work.
He was about 90 when this started.

(21,865 posts)Again, it is horrible to watch a parent suffer late in life. Sorry you had to deal with that.

(4,595 posts)deep vein thrombosis. He really did have it, but he'd also been neglecting his health, and there was some indication that he was doing this to get sympathy or have an excuse to quit.
Maybe Trump will soon be claiming health issues as an excuse?
That mark on his hand is not from shaking hands. It sure looks like he had an IV in there.

(141,926 posts)'Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) can cause a range of symptoms, including leg pain, swelling, and skin changes. These symptoms often worsen when standing or sitting for long periods and improve when legs are elevated. Other common signs include varicose veins, skin discoloration, and ulcers, particularly around the ankles.'

How long has he had it and if so how long have they covered up for it?

(34,890 posts)I have no doubt they're covering up something that's way worse than what they're claiming.
Show us your medical records, motherfucker. The real ones, not the fake ones you strong-armed your doctors into writing, like you did with Dr. Boerstein.
Metaphorical
(2,634 posts)There's little indication that he's had a heart attack (yet) but he's had Covid which can significantly weaken the heart, he's likely no longer taking the Ozempic (and is chunking up again), he has the urinary issues that usually indicate a steady stream of Lasix pills, and his age and diet are working against him. Most heart attacks anymore are survivable, IF you get prompt treatment, but he's a prime candidate at this point for either a major cardiac infarction or a stroke.

Probably connected to some sort of renal disease, too.
However, people live with that for years quite often.

yardwork
(69,352 posts)I've had that for decades. I get slight swelling in my ankles and rubbing my calves can hurt. I'm supposed to wear compression socks but I don't. My heart and kidneys are fine.
That ain't what Trump has. Or rather, maybe he's got that but he's got a LOT more than that going on!

Please respect the man's history of sexual assault, pedophilia, income tax evasion, casino hustling, draft dodging, business cheating, adultery, and continually BEARING FALSE WITNESS. malaise
(295,895 posts)Swelling and bruising in the legs and ankles can be a potential aftereffect of COVID-19, though it's not always a direct result. It's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment, as this could also be related to other underlying conditions

(520 posts)Complications of Late/Tertiary Syphilis:
Cardiovascular Syphilis: This can lead to aortic aneurysms and aortic valve disease.
Neurosyphilis: This can affect the brain and spinal cord, potentially causing meningitis, stroke, paralysis, vision or hearing loss, and cognitive decline.
Gummatous Syphilis: This involves the formation of gummas, which are destructive, localized lesions that can affect various organs.

but my husbands first sign of stage 4 prostate cancer was grossly distended lower legs. He went to the doctor and unfortunately instead of looking for an underlying cause for the swelling they had him buy a cumbersome machine that rhythmically compressed his legs. Didnt work. The underlying cancer was not discovered until he had a routine PSA test at his annual physical.
Whatever Trump has, I dont believe that its as simple and benign as chronic venous insufficiency. It may start there, but I doubt that it ends there.
nolabear
(43,850 posts)he should have been diagnosed long before swelling got that bad. And I expect he was, if hes been getting physicals at all. They released it now because its pretty common and its a great pretense of honesty.
The hand bruise, now, that has nothing to do with CVI.
