Coca-Cola will roll out cane sugar version of namesake soda in the U.S. this fall (NBC News) President Donald Trump had earlier announced that he had spoken with Coke about using REAL Cane Sugar in its drinks.
Coke first started using high-fructose corn syrup to sweeten its namesake soda in the U.S. in the 1980s.
Coca-Cola plans to introduce a version of its namesake cola made with cane sugar in the U.S. this fall, the company announced on Tuesday.
Coke has used high-fructose corn syrup to sweeten its namesake soda in the U.S. since the 1980s, although it still uses cane sugar in other markets like Mexico. Mexican Coke has gained popularity in the U.S. over the last decade or so, as retailers like Costco and Target have stocked the drink, following the lead of bodegas and restaurants catering to Hispanic clientele.
In a news release announcing its second-quarter earnings Tuesday, Coke said the new product offering is designed to complement the companys strong core portfolio and offer more choices across occasions and preferences.

(71 posts)Nobody is going to hoard the high fructose corn syrup version... We drove miles out into the country side and purchased cases in the 80's.

(43,094 posts)After some 40 years of the HFCS stiff, the "original formula" tasted... weird.
It's just a matter of (re-)acclimating oneself to the real McCoy, though. And, sugar isn't as bad for you as HFCS, according to my previous physician, so it'd probably be worth it -- that is, of course, if you drink sweetened soft drinks at all. (I've drank Dr Pepper since the early '70s.)
