Simpson: Yes, we renamed the opera house at the Kennedy Center for the First Lady
an excellent way to recognize her support and commitment to promoting the arts

I just now asked Google what the name of Opera House was and this is the reply
The opera house at the Kennedy Center is simply called the Opera House. It's the second-largest theater within the Kennedy Center and is designed for ballet, opera, and musical theater performances.

Panty modeling.
It will be changed back. Leave these scumbags.

(106,600 posts)and there's sod all about promotion of any art. The bits that are positive about anything are:
...
On March 8, 2017, Melania hosted her first White House event, a luncheon for International Women's Day. She spoke to an audience of women about her life as a female immigrant and about working towards gender equality both domestically and abroad, noting the role of education as a tool against gender inequality.
...
In October 2018, Melania took a tour of Africa without Donald, visiting Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt. She spent much of her time with children in schools, orphanages, and hospitals. She used the trip to tout relief work being carried out by the United States Agency for International Development, which raised questions about her husband's intention to cut its funding
[ed.: LOL. Shows how much Donald thinks of her contributions, or how much she'll actually stand up for her beliefs against him.]
...
On May 7, 2018, Melania held a press conference in the White House Rose Garden to announce her official public initiative as first lady, the Be Best awareness campaign. The initiative was created to support the welfare of children, advocate against cyberbullying, and prevent opioid abuse.

The only mention of the arts is her lack of interest in the Kennedy Center, and one abstract sculpture in the White House:
She has been the least notable First Lady in generations, especially in the area of the arts.

(1,267 posts)One opera they will probably not be producing there is: Don Giovanni.
The opera had subtitle: The Rake Punished.
Near the end of the opera at the banquet, Don Giovanni is given the chance to repent; he refuses.
Demons drag him immediately into Hell.

(32,354 posts)trump and his goons had already destroyed the Kennedy Center for me. This new development involving the "first lady" is the equivalent of witnessing someone pissing on a loved one's grave site: it's an insult, without a doubt---but the genuinely painful damage was already a done thing...

(106,600 posts)Republicans are not only are blind to the arts, they demand people pretend that they are sophisticated and supportive.
Donald Trumps favorite movie is Citizen Kane, the 1941 film about a publishing tycoon mogul who surrounds himself with material luxury but struggles to find happiness. I loved Orson Welles, Trump told Bloombergs Timothy OBrien. He was totally fucked up. He was a total mess. But think of his wives. Think of his hits. He was like this great genius that after 26, never did it. He became totally impossible. He thought everybody was a moron, everybody was this, everybody was that; if he had a budget hed exceed it by 20 times and destroy everything. He became impossible. I loved that.
In fact, Trump was such a big fan of the movie that he filmed a short video about it, directed by famed documentarian Errol Morris. Citizen Kane was really about accumulation. At the end of the accumulation, you see what happens, and its not necessarily all positive, Trump says, in what is fair to describe as an understatement. As he describes the film, Trump comes close to doing something unusualhe engages in self-reflection. Perhaps I can understand thatthe relationship that he had was not a good one for him, the thrice-married Trump says of Kanes declining relationship with his wife. He adds that in real life, I believe that wealth does isolate you from others; its a protective mechanism.
...
At the end of the video, Morris asks him a question: If you could give Charles Foster Kane advice, what would you say to him?
Trump doesnt have to think about it. Get yourself a different woman, he says.
