That is interesting. The way I see it, it could be for two reasons :

1) Blanche is there to deliver a message to her making it clear she better stay mum or her health might be in jeopardy

2) He is there to offer her a deal. Pardon in exchange of staying quiet, fly out of the country back to England and never come back to be deposed by congress.
