AZ-02: I am a fighter': Jonathan Nez (D) launches second bid to flip Arizona's largest congressional district

Former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez has launched another bid for Congress, seeking to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Eli Crane and flip Arizona’s largest congressional district.

“I am a fighter, and now more than ever, we need someone to warrior up and fight for Arizona,” Nez said in a statement. “The only thing Crane has fought for since taking office is taking money from our hard-working families to give to billionaires.

“Mr. Crane has betrayed us,” he added.

Nez, a Democrat, ran against Crane in 2024, when Crane won the seat with 54% of the vote to Nez’s 45%.

2. IIRC, Nez came much closer to (defeating) Crane than anyone came to defeating Paul Gosar

when he was the rep for our district. Our district changed a few years ago, Gosar went to represent another district, and our new rep was Crane. My mother follows this really closely and, bad as Gosar is, she assures me Crane is worse. But there were many years when nobody even bothered running against Paul Gosar because it was viewed as futile to challenge him, though he is one of the worst congresspeople in the nation. (Gosar is, famously, the congressman whose own family opposed him and ran ads reminding voters what an incompetent racist he is.)
