Some have been here for years and seem like they would rather be sycophantic apologists for someone like Maher than support democrats. And they rationalize it by calling themselves "free thinkers". Real free thinkers value and respect the truth, they don't make excuses for someone like Maher who platforms those who spout right wing BS when he's not parroting lying FAUX news talking points himself.
Or they claim we should be open to "constructive criticism". But what is constructive about Maher's bigotry and sexism? What is constructive about Maher's anti-vax views or his anti-trans views or his anti- woke rants? What is constructive about Maher bringing on right wing propagandists to lie with little push back? What was constructive about Maher attacking Kamala Harris last year? Nothing, but his minions refuse to admit that.
They like to lecture the rest of us for being 'soooo intolerant' so they can feel intellectually superior to feed their egos. At the end of the day tolerance for bigotry, sexism, lying propaganda is not being a "free thinker" or being open to "constructive criticism", it's just enabling it and enabling the evil that is will cause.

1- As with SNL, I watch selectively/critically - with SNL only the cold open and the weekend news and if there's a political skit; with MAHER, the monolog and the new rules and such and if the interview and panel if these are interesting or demolished.

2- I take to heart the Democratic agenda, which includes free thinking. Over the years I dare say I have more clocked hours monitoring Tweety (Chris MATTHEWS) and outright wingnut maggots like LIMBAUGH, the ones I study for their inventive fallacies for me to know how to counter any random aholes parroting at a Happy Hour. It's boring to me to hear what I already know and agree with except to join forces against the random aholes.

3- As a DUer said about Tweety many years ago, WHEN he's on our side there's nobody better. I say the same about MAHER. In recent years his old-man-yelling-about-his-lawn, which manifests in MAGAt feelings, is increasingly evident. Yet, when he faces a blind MAGAt he demolishes them.

4- It's a matter of keep-friends-close-enemies-CLOSER. Opposition Research.

5- There is such a thing as constructive criticism. It's an ancient rule of thumb, that wingnuts look outward for boogeymen to blame, and Libs look INWARD for root causes of problems and meaningful improvement. As often or more than not, there are grains of truth and insight in criticisms.

6- The kneejerk complaints against the weekly thread on MAHER's guests are sort of rooted in the facile belief that if you read or hear something it INFECTS you in a brainwashed way. That's core to MAGAts banning books, movies, theater. I listened to LIMBAUGH for 15 or more years and am still a Lib. The ones I don't listen to are the blind ideologues - HANNITY, CARLSON, WATERS, etc. I sampled O'REILLY along the lines of the inventive fallacy thing.

7- Keeping up with the weekly MAHER announcement thread is not "SUPPORT" of MAHER.

It's fascinating that I responded in good faith, but the OP wasn't interested in that, so several needless replies happened.

I'm adding this here to note the most recent comment and because the OP demonstrates similar antagonist behavior on this forum in general.

But the real question is who were you trying to help? My question was about Stephen Colbert. Your response didn’t mention Colbert at all. It just said:

Obviously, I was responding to the community here in the thread.
Your question wasn't about "Colbert." Your question was literally "has Bill Maher said anything about Colbert's cancellation?"

I gave context from what I knew. That's it.. and then you threw a tantrum and all of a sudden.. to you - I'm a Maher fan.
I am "defending" Maher for making a point. Do you hear yourself?

And then you asked why I kept replying, with no sense of irony in that you keep asking questions....

I've been on this forum for 20 years and have had great conversations. I have never had been involved in such disingenuous bullshit on this site until this post or someone that with such juvenile love for fighting on a forum for no reason. To be fair I would note that... Maher has been consistent in defending comedians.

So it sounded like you knew a lot about Maher. Although if he has been consistent in defending comedians, isn’t odd he’s said nothing about Colbert?
Anyway, you followed that up with
However, he usually doesn't post random comments on social media, it's usually related to show or tour schedules or adjacent jokes.

So it seemed like you knew a lot about his social media habits. So I requested “ Well let us know when he defends Colbert“ assuming that you kept track of him. When you refused, I asked another question and since then you have gotten very defensive and refuse to let this go. So much so, you made an innocuous, one line comment to your own post:

But I was thinking about MAHR's silence this morning, specifically in his long parroting that he is the champion of interacting with adherents of different points of view, meaning MAGAs. So if he is so open minded, why does he have animus towards Stephen and not support (so far) him on the basis of free speech.
