Yeah, sexual abuse of children is rampant
It's been institutionalized in many organizations. Such as the Catholic Church, most all religions, (wasn't one of Muhammad's wives 9 years old?) children sports activities and schools. It's been commonly accepted and allowed to flourish.
So, not surprised many people were victims and have an emotional reaction of disgust and hate about it.
