(2,096 posts)There's also a decently high rate of suicide.
The modern era guys in general seem to be likely to live longer as the road schedule is lighter and fewer of the guys are obviously on steroids.

(197,204 posts)Back in the day theyd do at least 3-5 shows a week. If you were just starting out you might find shows every night because you werent getting paid much. Wear and tear.

(197,204 posts)No do drugs and booze alleviate the pain? Yes but it is hard on the body. Back when Hulk got started theyd do 3-5 shows a week.

(18,690 posts)There's a suspected but (AFAIK) unproven link between anabolic steroid use and brain cancer. One of my PE teachers from high school died of brain cancer around age 50. He was suspected of using steroids (he was enormous) but always denied it.
Polybius
(22,122 posts)It's not proven though, as steroid users don't get it at any higher rate than non-steroid users.

(298,020 posts)Hulk Hogan, the blond and boisterous body-slammer who brought pro wrestling into the mainstream in the 1980s while becoming one of the most recognizable celebrities of his generation, died Thursday. He was 71.
Hogans death was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by promoter Eric Bischoff, his partner in the recently launched Real America Freestyle amateur wrestling league. TMZ reported that medical personnel were sent to his home in Clearwater, Florida, with operators stating it regarded a cardiac arrest.
The Hulkster headlined WrestleMania eight times, with perhaps his most memorable bout in the WWEs signature event coming in 1987 against the 520-pound Andre the Giant his mentor in the Pontiac Silverdome before a then-record crowd of 93,173.
