General Discussion

what is happening today?
How about those that refused to vote for Hillary in the general election which gave us the Supreme Court we have today, and judges like Canon.
What about those that refused to vote for VP Harris, and those that refused to endorse her, knowing full well the message that would send would discourage people from voting?

(5,538 posts)there are a good number of folks who have given a pass to those who refused to vote for Hillary which gave us the Supreme Court we have today, and that fact actually is what caused trump to get out of jail.
The reality is this Supreme Court would have never allowed trump to be prosecuted, because that is exactly what they did with their delays.

(131,252 posts)in the long run nothing would have changed, because SCOTUS would have issued its terrible immunity decision no matter who the AG might have been or how quickly he'd have acted - even if the prosecutions had gone to trial and resulted in convictions as we had all hoped, SCOTUS would have let Trump off the hook anyhow.

(5,538 posts)is that a lot of people seem to be in denial about that.
So as bad as garland was, in the end it was this SC that would have never allowed trump to be convicted, and Canon was also on that same page.

(5,538 posts)have never allowed trump to be convicted because that is exactly what they did, and this SC is a direct result of the 2016 election which we are all paying the price for.

(1,824 posts)There is no doubt that Garland deserves criticism for slow walking the charges against Trump. Whatever his reasoning at the time (he probably believed he was doing the "right" thing), it's as clear as day that he miscalculated and didn't have the backbone to do what was right.
There is also no doubt that Democratic voters who stayed home or otherwise did not vote for VP Harris deserve criticism.
One doesn't excuse the other.

(5,538 posts)voters in all those critical swing states who refused to vote for Hillary, allowed trump to win, and gave us the Supreme Court and Canon, that allowed allowed trump to avoid conviction.
The SC made it clear they were not going to allow any conviction of trump to occur, because that is exactly what happened.
but that is fine if you want to believe that voters have no responsibility for the government we have.
