In 2032 Social Security is predicted to drop 24%

That is 1/4th folks. That is only 7 years away

If people in office do not get their acts together and lift the caps on SS, it is not only Senior Citizens that are in for a world of hurt.. Young people starting out with little families will have the added burden of supporting elderly relatives..

The republicans have always hated the fact that the elderly got Social Security to back up their retirement savings.
They have spent decades trying to tear it down through sheer negligence every time they get into office. They are going to drown it in the bathtub so to speak..

The shortfall has been predicted by the trustees for years. It was predicted when Bush Jr. was President, when Obama was President, when Trump was President, when Biden was President, and now again with Trump.

The problem is nobody wants to do anything about it, because there is no popular solution (and no, eliminating the cap doesn't solve the problem...it just helps.)

To avoid a reduction in benefits around the years 2032-2034, more money needs to be paid into SS... .a lot more. And the longer we wait to pay more in, the more drastic the increase will have to be.

By law, if nothing is done, benefits will decrease. That's just a fact. And I think that's exactly what is going to happen, because no matter who is in power then, they can blame that decrease on somebody else.

Elections have consequences. Got to change the people in office. That's the only way we are going to save Social Security and maybe even strengthen it. Until then I see no value in trying to convince the people in office now in which most of them hate Social Security to change their mind. Might as well stand in front of a brick wall and argue with it until it moves out of your way. That's essentially the same thing as trying to convince republicans in charge of the Government to do something to fix Social Security.

They “get” social security because it was a portion of their paycheck that the government collected from them with the promise that it would be returned to them when they reached a certain age. The republicans like to snidely refer to it as an “entitlement” to old folks and actually they are correct. We are ENTITLED to it because it is money that we worked for and earned.

In the primaries, Democrats should take note of candidates positions. Since this issue will be high on my list, I hope there will be a Democratic candidate who is not afraid to confront this issue, who will pursue a real solution, and who can communicate clearly about the issue. This is one reason I hope AOC runs for President. I know I can trust her on this issue. But Social Security is a fundamental Democratic program. Every Democratic candidate should be prepared to fight for it, without compromise.

In the election voters should take note of Democratic vs Republican positions. This issue should weigh heavily with every voter.
