VA-GOV: 100 days to history: Virginia nears landmark election amid political crossroads
RICHMOND, Va. (7News) With just 100 days until voters head to the polls, Virginia is poised to make history, no matter the outcome of its 2025 statewide elections.
For the first time in the Commonwealths 236-year history, voters are guaranteed to elect a woman as governor with both major parties nominating women: Democrat Abigail Spanberger and Republican Winsome Earle-Sears.
Down the ballot, the lieutenant governor's race could also break new ground. Democrat Ghazala Hashmi, the first Muslim and South Asian American state senator, and Republican John Reid, who is openly gay, are each vying to become the first in their respective identities to win statewide office.
In the race for attorney general, Republican incumbent Jason Miyares, the first Cuban American to hold the post, faces former Delegate Jay Jones, who would become Virginias first Black attorney general if elected.
