A Las Vegas Festival Promised Ways to Cheat Death. Two Attendees Left Fighting for Their Lives.

A Las Vegas Festival Promised Ways to Cheat Death. Two Attendees Left Fighting for Their Lives.
Authorities are investigating why two women fell ill at the Revolution Against Aging and Death Festival. They both received peptide injections, an alternative therapy promoted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a way to fight aging and chronic disease.

(ProPublica) They went to a Las Vegas conference this month that promised pathways to an “unlimited lifespan.” But at least two attendees left in ambulances and were hospitalized in critical condition, requiring ventilators to breathe.

The two women, who are recovering, fell ill after receiving peptide injections at a conference booth. The doctor who ran the booth was a Los Angeles physician specializing in “age reversal” therapies who did not have permission to practice medicine or dispense prescriptions in Nevada. Public health investigators are trying to determine if anyone else who attended the Revolution Against Aging and Death Festival experienced a similar illness.

The investigation comes as peptides grow in popularity, thanks in part to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s promotion of the amino acid chains as a way to fight aging and chronic disease. Since becoming Health and Human Services secretary, Kennedy has vowed to end the Food and Drug Administration’s “war on peptides” and other alternative health therapies. Kent Holtorf, the doctor overseeing the booth where the women became ill, also has called for less regulation of alternative therapies and has criticized the FDA for blocking compounds he sees as lifesaving.

Holtorf told ProPublica he is cooperating with the investigation. “Of course, I want to get to the bottom of it. But almost assuredly it will come out that it was not the peptides.” ........................(more)

How many Americans will RFK Jr. murder with his stupidity? It is an indictment of our society that such an idiot is the head of a major national health agency.

Take good care of the basics: standard nutrition, exercise, sleep, mental well-being, social connectedness, avoid debilitating drugs like tobacco and alcohol.

Some fad is not a license to over-eat, or to run yourself ragged on 6 hours sleep.

Promises of "unlimited lifespan" or becoming "trans-human" or living past 120 are bogus. There are some people who take dozens of pills with supplements and cure-alls and snake oil. Some very intelligent people. What a dreary existence to be popping so many pills. Each is supported with some study somewhere that claims a 2 or 3 percent improvement in one factor or another. But the total is not additive and may be net subtractive. Obsessing on studies and bio-markers and constantly checking indicators is not healthy. Instead of taking a turmeric pill daily, just add turmeric to recipes more often and do things like substitute a curry for beef stroganoff.

Skip the fads. Get really good at basics and enjoy life more.
