AI web searches use 10x the energy of regular search engines

Having a "conversation" with an AI has massively energy consumption.

Google Search: Uses 0.0003 kWh per query, emitting 0.2g CO2.
ChatGPT: Uses 0.0029 kWh per query (10x more energy), emitting 68g CO2.

AI will kill us, not in some Scifi skynet scenario, but by making the Earth unlivable by it's resources demands.
Add this to the millions of unemployed people due to AI and our doom is written in code.

Think about this when you are having fun with AI.

Holy cow farts!

There are only approximately 2.182 grams of CO2 in the average can of soda. So there’s 34 x as much CO2 from an AI query than is in a fizzy drink!

Hardware and software advances will lower the cost of training and commissioning the current models, but those gains may be completely offset by the ever-increasing complexity of the models.

The more AI is ingrained into everything, the more energy it uses.

That said, smartphones are about as powerful as supercomputers from 20 years ago...but use far less energy.

There is no evidence that the insanely complex algorithms that comprise this generation of "Artificial Intelligence" have a viable business model attached to them. They require free access to data and unlimited processing capacity, neither of which is realistic.

The surest way to get a bump in your stock price is to say "AI blah blah blah". Elon runs a failing car company that has one of the most insane valuations in stock market history in a large part because of that investor relations strategy.

Someday there will be AI and someday that AI will replace a lot of jobs. I don't think this generation of AI, which is really just an algorithmic, full text, search tool, is going to pull that off on a big scale.

It has poured mountains of money into AI, which has a questionable business model and use case for the product. A good rule of thumb is that the more shrill a new technology's evangelists get, the closer we are to popping that technology's valuation bubble. Some of the recent statements have been pretty shrill.

Google search has become a Ouija Board of commercial crap following the fingers of a billion idiots across the touch screens of their phones and tablets.

It's Wikipedia fucking Amazon on an acid trip.
