I posted a thread about a week ago which was removed by DU after about an hour, with 20 replies, wherein I stated that Bryan Kohberger who brutally stabbed 4 young people to death, was 'rewarded' with free room and board and free medical and dental care and library privileges for the rest of his life, amongst other 'benefits'. My thread was taken down for evidently violating rules proscribing 'kooky, extremist, or hate content'. I appealed the removal as was prompted possible after I received an explanatory email from DU. I have heard nothing in reply. My thread could only be interpreted in any of those kooky extremist or hatred senses in a subjective manner since my views reflected views of many of the victim's families and friends, as well as countless informed Americans. The only hatred expressed was towards the murderer kohberger, and if arguing that death for this sadistically brutal killer was extremist to us democrats, then I say to you stop coddling heinous mass murderers as if their lives were precious. The underlying objective in my thread was that there is little disincentive to committing heinous mass murder without the death penalty; it is the best prevention plan our society has for heinous mass murder, especially school shootings. Outside of this reasoning I do not support the death penalty. The kohberger case being downgraded to life in prison can embolden other potential mass murderers that they too can kill and also be 'rewarded' with life in prison. As I said, my views then and now reflected views of the victim's families: Note how the first sentence speaks of how kohberger was REWARDED: Bryan Kohberger facing a life in prison means he would still get to speak, form relationships, and engage with the world. I don't think life in prison is any kind of reward, especially in a U.S. prison. Prisons are dangerous, violent places. People are beaten, raped and murdered by guards and other inmates. It's not a vacation.

I'm glad the killer is off the streets. He was caught, tried, found guilty and sentenced in accordance with the U.S. Constitution.

If you want to live in an even more bloodthirsty country, there are some options.

I think the incarcerated person should have a cyanide pill available if they don't want to spend the rest of life in prison.

I'm not entirely opposed to the death penalty, and it seems appropriate in this case, but I will also acknowledge that a life without liberty is a life not worth living.
