14. I just did a follow up as a CA coastal resident....

I have researched the Japanese tsunami after their 9.2 quake in 2011 which had sets of waves 33 meters/100 feet hit them. The residents train to evacuate and the scientists all agree that the safest thing to train people to do is to RUN!!! ASAP!!!! to a higher elevation before a tsunami warning even tells them to do so. That's why there were considerably fewer deaths compared to the 9.1 Sri Lankan tsunami of 2004.

I followed up this research about 1 week ago when I studied the Alaskan earthquake of 9.2 in 1964. Scientists agree that there should be signs posted and residents trained to "just run to a higher elevation right away". There are signs posted showing people to run up a hill. It doesn't even need to be a steep hill, just one that is about 30' above sea level.

Lots of us spent a whole bunch of time in traffic. I didn’t, but it was pretty hairy for some. Most business is caught up and sent people home early which was good. I just left my safe community space up mauka(toward the mountains) and returned home. It wasn’t within a tsunami zone when I moved to this side if the island, but it is now, or close enough.
