Danville (Va.) City Councilman set on fire at his work.

Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler set on fire; attacker in custody, officials say

On Wednesday, around 11:30 a.m., officers said they were dispatched to the 700 block of Main Street for a report of a male being set on fire. The Danville Fire Department and the Danville Life Saving Crew also responded to the scene.

According to witnesses at the scene, the suspect entered the victim’s place of employment, confronted him, and doused him with a flammable liquid. The victim and suspect left the building, and the suspect then set the victim on fire.

Officials said the suspect fled the scene; however, witnesses were able to provide a description of the suspect and his vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle several blocks away and took the driver into custody.

Based on the investigation, Vogler and Hayes know each other, and the attack stems from a personal matter, not related to Vogler’s position on the Danville City Council.
