California, Do Not Wait

Asking the legislature to draw up a new map and then hold a special election to approve it.

Democrats we need to fight authoritarianism with everything we have.

The special election would be to approve a constitutional amendment changing how the lines are drawn… only then could the legislature draw up a new map.

That would take at least five months even is they started today.

It’s no sure thing that the voters would approve the amendment… so even producing a proposed map now would just give opponents something to run against.

Out of the 11 most gerrymandered states 10 favor Republicans and Democrats would be accused of cheating? When is this party going to fight back with equal force?

I will continue to donate to Indivisible and the ACLU.

There has to be another way to combat republican tactics.
We don’t need to be seen as corrupt as our foes on the right.

The voting population of Texas is fairly evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. Texas has 38 House seats, yet only 12 of those are currently held by Democrats. Such gerrymandering is erasing any representation for Democrats in the House, which is supposedly the People’s house, but now only for Republicans.

Gerrymandering is cheating, and it needs to be outlawed. Of course, that will never happen because it benefits Republicans too much.

there is nothing Democrats can do. GOTV in gerrymandered states and then if we lose blame poor turnout, blame the Democrats.

Yesterday Marc Elias said that Republicans have over 50 lawsuits filed in over 20 states which are designed to rig the 2026 election. Elias has over 50 lawsuits filed.

Elias said that Republicans have a network of excellent people working every day to guarantee that Republicans win elections.

When the RNC announced its co-chairs I said that Whatley was the one to worry about, he was the lawyer who filed all of the election lawsuits. Republicans plan every day of the year how to win by hook or crook.

...and I'm hopeful that Texas state Dems can stop the effort in Texas.

Having said that, the breakdown of the current Texas Congressional delegation is closer to how Texas voted in the 2024 Presidential election than either California or New York. If Texas is able to complete their reapportionment plan, they'll be on par with California, percentage-wise.

All of this is to say that outlawing gerrymandering might help Democrats when it comes to house seats or it might not.

I'm sorry, but Republicans are destroying democracy and they're doing it because democrats are sitting back and doing nothing but talking while Republicans continue to take brazen action. We need to stop acting like we are incapable of doing anything. We need to follow their playbook. If they want to gerrymander Texas, instead of democrats on DU posting about how Texas sucks and we should give it back to Mexico (please remember this next time and how blue Texas voters are being cheated out of their votes), then California, Michigan, New York and any other Blue state where we have control and can pick up seats needs to follow suit.
