How the EPA Saved Me Some Money - and Why Politics Matter

The Check Engine light came on in my 4 year old Chevy Trax. Since the car has only 7700 miles on it, I was surprised to see that dash light. So, I dutifully took the car into my Chevy dealer's shop to be checked. It's out of the basic Chevrolet all-inclusive 3-year warranty period, so I was not well-pleased. My experience with dealer repair costs is not pleasant.

Anyhow, I got a call after the issue had been diagnosed. Turns out it was a faulty purge pump in the evaporative emissions control system. But, before I could start guessing how much this was going to cost me, the service manager said, "There will be no cost to you. The EPA requires that we correct the problem for up to 130,000 miles under a special program."

So, I'll get my car back with the light shut off and with a new purge pump installed.

Thanks, EPA!

I wonder how long this kind of thing will last with the Trump White House. Trump hates the EPA. That is the difference between a Democratic and a Republican administration. One cares. The other doesn't give a shit.
